04 6.0 surging on acceleration, heavy black smoke
I've got an 04 6.0, 115,000 miles. About a month ago after leaving a stop sign I had no power and heavy black smoke. I pulled over and idled a couple minutes and took off with no problems. Last week I was pulling a trailer and felt a "buck" and lost power, I looked in the mirror and it was rolling coal again. I pulled over and let it set a minute, took off and it was fine. Later that day it bucked again and starting smoking. This time it didnt come out of it. I limped it down the highway about 5 miles to where i could get off. While trying to accelerate it has a serious surge and blows lots of black smoke. Any ideas?? Truck is bone stock.

is it early 04? if not, i would highly suspect the ebp sensor or wiring. have a close look at the ebp wiring. if you do not find a fault in the wiring, disconnect the sensor and see how it runs.

I pulled the EGR valve today and the top section of it was completely blocked off. I cleaned it and it seems to fine now. I will have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the information.
