04 Excursion long crank time

My 04 Excursion cranks a long time before starting. especially when it's sat for several hours. I always wait until the glow plug light goes out before cranking but it seems to take a while. It also has the clicking noise after I shut it off as if something is still on under the hood. When it's been run it fires right up. Also sometimes it takes off like a bat out of hell but at other times it seems the throttle response is not as crisp. Any ideas?

ficm or injectors probably, check the voltage at the ficm (plenty of how to vids on youtube if you need them). my 03 f250 had the same type problems and it turned out to be stiction in the injectors. given that it starts better when warm id bet its the injectors, try hotshot secret or cetain booster to clean them, both are cheaper than dealer diagnostic and injector replacement.
