2001 died, lots of oil
I have a 2001 powerstroke and while driving home last night I romped on the fuel for a bit and all of a sudden it just died. lots of smoke coming from under hood and when I opened hood lots of oil all over. oil pressure has been excellent and even after it died until engine quit turning had good pressure. No knocks or noises. It turns over fine now but no start. still some oil on dipstick. Any thoughts?

Have you determined where the oil came from? That needs to be your starting point.

Not yet but was just wondering if this was something anyone else had experienced

Sounds like your hpop is fine if it cranks and isn't sounding like It's dry cranking. and remember a little oil spread out looks like a lot. It could be just 1 quart and it will still show on your dipstick. It made no weird noises right before it died?

nope, just died, tranny stayed engaged so engine still turning, good oil pressure, no acceleration, shifted to neutral and coasted most the way home
