runaway idle

1998 ford E-350 7.3 diesel ambulance.start engine runs normal for about 10 seconds then the idle goes up until its screaming.checked for vacuum leaks
and found none. e-brake off and in park.

Disconnect the TPS, perhaps it's stuck.

oil leak ?

I had a turbo fail on a off brand not a 7.3l but oil leaking into intake caused the exact problem describing , I have a 01 E450 7.3l not fun for working on, check compressor outlet for oil.

I have found it to be electrical.amulance pcm requires alt voltage or it raises idle to 3000 rpms. alt dead will replace and see what happens

Makes sense though. That should have the AIC (auxiliary idle control) and it makes the engine keep certain voltage on demand. It can be changed I'm sure.
Should have dual alternators too.
