i have a 99 f-250 7.3 ps. it has 204000 miles. up til now it has ran like a champ. but today i was driving around for a few hours. just short trips and stop and go driving. then i went home and it sat for a few hours. i went to leave. it started right up no problem. ran fine for about a quarter mile leaving home. then it started to misfire and had very reduced power. it still idles and runs just with what feels like multiple cylinder misfires and the lack of power of course. has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any insight in my problem? im fairly new into the diesel game. ive been a gas guy for most my life. iknow gas motors inside and out. but dont have many ideas on this.i was wondering if it could maybe be water or junk in the fuel. i changed the fuel filter and drained the water seperator about 3000 miles ago. any ideas, tips, or thoughts would help me out a ton!!!!! thanks

I had this very same issue on my '99 7.3. It turns out the the injector wires go through the valve cover gasket and have a plug on gasket. THis plug came partially loose and from time to time 1 to 3 of the injectors would not fire. Usually this happened after the engine warmed up or I was taking a turn. All of the sudden it would just start running rough then fine again...
Check this plug and maybe change the gasket ($140.00). Good luck. |
