question - LTC application

Hi everyone,

I will be applying for my LTC in MA in a couple days. I've completed the required training, have my letters of recommendation and am pretty much ready to roll.

I want the LTC so that I'm able to purchase various firearms with larger capacity so I'm not constantly reloading while practicing on the range. I'd like to be able to target shoot with pistols, rifles, etc for well rounded skills. Of course in the back of my mind, personal protection in the ungodly event that it is needed....

But, I've heard that some licensing authorities don't like to hear 'personal protection' as a reason and if you just state 'target purposes' you may end up with restrictions saying you can own the larger capacity and pistols but cannot carry them concealed.

Now, I really have no intent of keeping a pistol on me in day-to-day life and will probably not be carrying day in and day out. But, I don't want to be restricted...obviously.

My reasons for requesting the LTC are lawful target/sport/practice, the ability to learn and understand different firearms, and possible job opportunities in security/armored transit in case my current job goes away...still gutta pay the bills.

What are some other reasons to justify the LTC that can augment my current justifications?

Thanks!!

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution!
It's outrageous that you have to provide 'justification' to receive a
piece of paper that says you may exercise your right to bear arms.

Not the helpful input you were looking for. Just a rant.

Personally, I'd go ahead and cite personal protection, in accordance
with the 2nd Amendment.

oh, i couldn't agree more!

i've heard of different towns restricting the 'carry concealed' part if you state 'target' as a reason...

just trying to be prepared if I am asked...on the application it requires you give a reason for request. second amendment rights will now be going on there as well as what i've stated.

thanks!

Have you talked to anyone at the local gun shops? They may be able to steer you in the right direction.

i have.

due to the fact that i don't yet have my paperwork, they really didn't want to give me the time of day.

i've heard that if you just tell them 'target/sport' they will put a restriction on the license so that it's limited to just that.

i've always been fond of 'aiming' sports. i tend to have a good eye and would like to try my hand with different firearms. I don't want to be reloading constantly so, the larger capacity would be nice. i don't particularly want to be carrying a weapon every day but, i guess it opens up opportunities in security or armored transport jobs. -if that ends up being an opportunity and i need to pay the bills...well, maybe that's a job for a while.

anyway, want to give a shout out to the folks here as i've read lots of responsible weapon talk on the forum -figured it was a good sounding board.

thanks everyone, it was thought provoking..
