Okay so it didn't actually pass. It waiting on a third reading but is expected to pass and then move on to the House. That's pretty good, though, for a bill that everyone thought was dead. The vote was 20-10 in favor so even if a few of the senators drop their support it should still be fine. Tomorrow some people are planning on going to Austin and lobbying representatives (especially the House Calendars Committee- if you followed the other thread I had going on here you know how important they are) to support the bill. If you are in Austin and want to help, pm me and I'll give you the number of the Texas director for Students for Concealed Carry on Campus and you can meet up with him and whoever else is lobbying with them. |

Well, the Senate bill officially passed this morning and is off to the House. We have to get the Calendars Committee to schedule a vote for it. They did it for the House bill (unfortunately it was too late). Here are the names and numbers of the House Calendars members. Please give them a call and tell them to QUICKLY schedule a House vote on SB 1164. It has to be passed by the full House by June 1. I stared the members who were either an author or a coauthor of the House bill. They should support this. We really need to work on the others. If any one of them doesn't want the bill to be voted on, it won't be, so we have to put a ton of pressure on them. Brian McCall (chair) (512) 463 0594 **Eddie Lucio III (512) 463 0606 Norma Chavez (512) 463 0622 Garnet Coleman (512)463 0524 **Byron Cook (512) 463 0730 Brandon Creighton (512) 463 0726 **Charlie Geren (512) 463 0610 **Jim Keffer (512) 463 0656 **Lois Kolkhorst (512) 463 0600 **Edmund Kuempel (512) 463 0602 **Jim McReynolds (512) 463 0490 Allan Ritter (512) 463 0706 Burt Solomons (512) 463 0478 |
