Airline travel

After doing some research i am planning on taking my Glock 27 with me from Dullas airport to Dallas. As far as i can tell all i need to do is fill out a form saying the gun is unloaded, have it in a tsa approved gun case and get to the airport early so i can have the weapon inspected by a tsa agent and checked.Does anyone have any experience with this? I am going there for 5 days and i really feel naked with out a weapon and hey i`m going to Texas it`s like i would be the only one not armed right
Thanks for any help
Mike

Last time I flew you had to have it in a hard sided lockable case unloaded and locked. You need to tell the person at the airline counter you need to check in a firearm. Then they will have you remove it from your luggage and show them it is unloaded and in a locked case. They have a form you fill out and put it in the luggage with the gun. Then I have another lock to lock my luggage with and they take your bag away. Its not as scary as it may seem. Just a hassle. You can have ammo in the same case and bag just not in the magazine. Hope it helps and have a safe trip.

The info above is correct. I flew from Texas to Florida and did the same thing. They take you in a private room and you open the case for them and fill out a form. I would call whatever airline you are flying on and make sure they don't have any other required info before you get to the airport.
