Conceal Carry on Military Base

Question.......

I have a CCW. Now I am well aware that you are NOT allowed to carry on post. I frequent an Air Force base on a weekly basis. I am a Snap-On tool dealer. So while going through security as usual, in front of me was an armored car. Now how is it possible for them to carry on base? They are a private company, employees are civilian, and are in a privatly owned vehicle. Just curious as I am sure that my truck is worth WAY more than what they had in theirs. I asked the boob at the gate and got the run-around. Is there any AF guys that could help me out with who I need to talk to or what the deal is?

For the AF? No. Neither was the other guy. Went to McD's and gas station.

For starters, they're not carrying concealed.

Just as important, the nature of their job requires them to carry a firearm whereas yours does not. The DOD recognizes this and makes a concession based on that fact. No different than a LEO carrying a loaded firearm onto a base.

This is a topic which we have discussed here numerous times. I work on a military installation and there are quite a few persons who are retired military, reserve LEO, and CCW Licensed citizens. What kind of concessions can be made for those of us who want to be able to carry between work and home and during lunch if we choose to leave the base? Historically, most military installations are in the "seediest" part of town, or they just attract those types of people. I would personnally like to see a "Checkpoint" or "lockboxes" placed at or near the entrance to the base so that we can drop off our firearm and retrieve it when we depart the gate.
Anybody got any input? Might be a good idea for a new thread?

I don't think things have changed much since I got out, but the only thing I think you can do is unload your weapon and secure it separate from the ammo before you enter the gate. When you leave, do the opposite.

Best bet is to go to the MP/SP shack and ask for a copy of the regulations. Also ask clarifying questions and get that individual's name. Write it down on the regs and carry it in your vehicle.
