storm spotters/ham radios

Anyone on here a skywarn storm spotter? I am thinking about getting certified as a spotter and i thought about getting a portable ham radio. Anyone have any experience with ham radios or storm chasing?

I got a ham radio out of an old army hummer and never used it. I also would like to know what you need to legally use one.

You need an amateur radio license from the FCC. As far as skywarn training. check the national weather service there are classes monthly in most areas. If I remember right its an 8 hour deal

Here are some links.

I don't do storm spotting (or chasing). If that twister wants me, it's gonna have to hunt me down and pry me
off my couch. I'm not going to IT!
