Question for the computer gurus

Okay here goes, I have norton antivirus with spyware. I run a scan every week.
well this past week, I am getting pop ups saying this other software is scanning my system and do I want to fix or stay unprotected, funny thing is, I can't even find this program that is supposedly scanning my machine in my programs menu, so I keep x'ing out and running my norton. Now it says I am good to go, except these two files that it says have problems, but it won't let me delete them or do anything with them, all the while still getting these other windows that pop up saying infected with this and that, as stated earlier. Any suggestions? I am thinking of just doing a restore, but will that get rid of my virus, that I paid for to keep my system clean, that is aparently not working. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas? I'd appreciate, I would hate to have to call geek squad, they charge up the butt.

Yes some of these programs are great for getting rid of spyware and even some viruses but for them to be effective you have to run the computer in safe mode. When you boot up the machine in safe mode, any spyware or virus will probably not start as the machine starts in a very limited capacity. Files that are needed by the virus and the operating system might not be limited by permissions issues and the spyware programs mentioned before might be more successfull at removing this stuff if the file/files are available to them.

If you are not sure how to start the machine in safe mode, hit F8 continuesly while the machine is booting up. Google Windows XX safe mode boot up.

I run Nod32 myself... Norton is a total joke and the first thing i say it to ditch it for something decent. Also for the time being download malwarebytes and give your system a good scan.

Trust me, you do want to run the computer in safe mode. Some of the Dynamic Link Libraries being linked to by spyware are not writable when running in non-safe mode. Thus, your Anti-virus will not access to many files rendering it useless.

You don't have to take my word on it. Do some research and you will see that most anti-virus programs will tell you to run them while the computer is in safe mode. The key word here is Safe mode. Look up what safe mode means and you will really have your answer.
