Webcam Video Calling
Im getting my mother a web cam for Christmas (Don't even go there) so that she can do live video calls with me. She lives in Nashville and I am in Phoenix. Im doing this so she can see her first Grandson since of course he is here with me. Does anybody use any sites or programs for this? Im nervous about someone hacking into our discussion over the net and stealing info and what not. Thanks. for th help

I use Skype also, it works really good for calling and video calling. You can also call long distance land lines for really cheap. As far as being safe, I don't think you need to worry about people hacking into your conversations, there are over 10 million people using Skpe as I type this message (it tells you in at the bottom of the little window how many people are onlin) and the chance that someone does hack into a conversation it probably wont be yours. As with all stuff over the internet, never exchange credit card number, bank account numbers, social security number, and so on over un-secure connections. Don't worry about it though, people who hack computers for information usually lean more towards emails than chat programs. Give Skype a shot otherwise any of the major instant messengers are good like Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, so on and so on. Good Luck!

As far as I know it is. I've been using for about 6 months and no issues. Every once in a while I'll get some spam on the instant message part of it but I just delete it.

Yahoo or messenger is a great way to make initial contact. After making a contact, switch over to Netmeeting and do IP address to IP address. By doing this you will eliminate the servers in the middle.
(To find it on XP,do a search for conf.exe.) |
