TomTom or Garmin Nuvi??

I have never owned a GPS, and my wife is getting me one for Christmas. There are several different models of the TomTom on sale now along with a few of the Garmins. Which model do you guys recomend?? I dont need it to be super duper hi tech, just easy to use and easy to understand. Want to be able to punch in and search for food, fuel, etc,etc along with it telling me where to turn, etc. As I said, there are quite a few on sale right now from 99-199 dollars. Thanks for your help.

Howdy Shane

my dad has a tomtom, it costed a little over 100 bucks, and it has alot of neat features. It has turn by turn directions, its internet updateable (probably most are); you can download different voices that it will use in giving u the verbal directions. Also it has a pretty cool feature for driving at night, so that the screen isnt bright. it changes to all darker colors and looks prety cool. cuts down on the glare alot

my dad seems to like it alot

hope this helps

I just recently purchased a Nuvi 260 and love it!!! It has text to speech so it says the name of the streets so I can keep my eye on the road. Its very simple to use. My wife was able to get it right out of the box and start using it, now thats amazing to me. It came with a window mount which works great for taking out of the truck to her car. I would recommend the Nuvi 260 for sure! I won't leave the house without it! I've downloaded things from Garmin's website already, very simple and small enough to carry in your pocket if your on the run. Just my 2 cents though.
