byebye Vista....

Well, I'm doing it. I hate Vista so much, I'm going to install XP on my new "Vista only" Gateway laptop....I found 90% of the drivers, just a few "minor" ones to go....webcam, and the media buttons.

Wish me luck. I hate this goddamn OS.

My office bought a bunch of new Dell laptops - all with Vista - none of them are working right. I got lucky though - mine was ordered 6 months prior to the new shipment and came with XP!!! Granted its not a Mac - but XP is a heck of alot better then Vista can only dream of being!

Good luck to you!

We'll see how it goes. I just want to make sure all the features of the computer work, or it's kinda a wash IMO....If XP doesn't work right, I'll just do a clean install of Vista business, and get rid of all the preloaded crap that comes it....but XP should work....

It's bloated and memory hungry. It uses over a gig of ram at idle most of the time.

I have 3 vista laptops. 2 business, 1 ultimate.

All work perfectly.

I just got a new laptop with vista also. It looks nice and it seems to be more user friendly as far as finding the things I need to use. Only problem I've had so far is it locks up on startup every once in a while. I have 3 gigs of memory though. Also, the battery reminder sucks. It doesn't make a sound (or at least I never hear it ) and just shuts down without warning.

From a non-computer guy view, mine works "perfectly", but not for me...

I'm going to try XP, and if all the drivers work, it's good to go. I know the computer will be atleast 2x's faster with XP....I have 3gigs of ram, and a core2duo processor, there's no reason it should be using over 1/3 of the ram at idle....

If I can make the laptop not have to work as hard, naturally, the heat will drop, and the battery life will be longer.

Faster
Running cooler
longer battery life
=
happy
