should work fine, but you need to turn the s-video port on, on your laptop. and select it on your tv.

there should be an input select on your tv remote, you just need to select the s-video input.

As for the laptop, what model laptop! and what Operating system?

svideo does not carry sound, you will probably have to use the line out or head phone jack to get sound.
