What Happened to the Good Old Days: 8/16 Bit?

What DID happen to the good old days? I'm not talking about Atari or CalecoVision. Yes, these systems may have started the gaming revolution, but having owned both(2500, 2600, & the CV), their lifespans tended to be short. No, I'm talking about the ones that REALLY lit the fuse; Nintendo & Sega. After my Atari(s) were long-gone to the incinerator, it took me some serious fanessing & butt kissing to my parents to buy a Nintendo, because they thought $92 was; "Wicked expensive!" When they finally caved-in, I got my 1st Nintendo @ 8yrs. old. From then on, I collected as many games as I could; birthdays, Christmas, lawn mowing, etc. until the battle between Sega Genesis & SNES engaged. Back then, not knowing better, I once again depended on my parents generosity only to double the fanessing & butt kissing for a Sega Genesis that cost $149.99 with only 1 paddle because that was; "WICKED, FRIGGIN' EXPENSIVE!!!" When I finally got it, I did the same as I had with my beloved Nintendo. Over more time, I obtained a Sega Master system with 50 games(although 6 of them were doubles) & borrowed a friend's SNES that I had never given back, & started obtaining games for it as well. Then after that, the gaming explosion had begun. Sega CD for the Genesis, Sega Saturn, the debut of PS1, N64, PS2, GameCube, etc., just seem to come & go! Like the lifecycle of a game console is only a few years & then something bigger & better comes out. I've made it all the way up to PS2 & XBOX360(still can't afford that damn PS3) & wonder; "How much longer before these systems are dried-up & forgotten? Then I look back @ my Nintendo, Segas, & SNES & wonder more; "What was wrong with these systems? Why? Why did the world leave them?" I recently counted my games for each, & they are as follows:
Nintendo: 288
Sega MS: 54
Sega Genesis: 205
SNES: 164
Then I look @ games for the newer systems, & all of them together don't total up to any one of the older systems alone! Another thing too I've noticed is you can beat any of the games for the newer systems, but you couldn't beat all of the games for the antiques, could you? Heck, for most of Nintendo's games didn't even have a difficulty selection! & Sega's & SNES's were mostly Hard, Med, Easy. For all of us 'Old Schoolers' who miss the old days as much as I do, let's hear a shout for your favorite system(s) & let's also hear your favorite classic games. I wanna hear something from the Atari/Caleco crowd if you're still out there too!
Here are some of my all-time favorites:
Metal Gear, Snake's Revenge, Bad Dudes, any MegaMan, Skate or Die!, Operation Wolf, Contra, Super Sprint, Bionic Commando, Codename:Viper, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Hogan's Alley, Final Fantasy, BubbleBobble, any Sonic, Streets of Rage 1-3, Fatal Fury, Final Fight, MERCS, Ecco the Dolphin, any Shinobi &....well, I'll put everyone to sleep before I'm done, so let's hear YOUR favorites!

Man, I had the one for Nintendo & one day heard something rattling inside it. When I put it in the console, it never worked again. I travelled the ends of the earth to find another one & got my hands on the regular Tetris AND the one made by TenGen where 2 players could go @ it! I love 'em!

Man, I remember begging for a Nintendo too after the family Atari 2600 went by the wayside.

Can't forget about the Turbo Graphix 16 with the portable version that took the same game cards.

Or how about the Neo Geo (I think that was the name)...was like $800 when the original Nintendo came out.

You know you can download emulators for all the old systems as well as all the roms. Get a usb paddle from wal mart and play all the old games on your PC

This site has some good emulators

The Emulator Zone - Your Source for Emulation!

This site has the roms (game files)

ROM-World.com - Rom Downloads - MAME roms Gba roms Snes roms Nintendo roms Sega Genesis roms

I also have a modded xbox with emulators for every game for nintendo sega atari linx
