Cell Phone Hacking

Any of you know how to hack a Samsung Intensity II to be able to have custom ringtones? I can record a sound with it and set it but it sounds like total crap, the mic sucks. How can i set MP3 files as ringtones?

Your phone, I believe is with Verizon, right? If that is the case what you do is use someone else's phone to send the mp3 file to your phone as an attachment to a text message or something. Your phone will let you save the mp3 as a "sound file" or something close; I cant remember that bit. Once you do that, you should be able to access that "sound file" as a ringtone. My youngest stepson had to show me that trick a couple of years ago. That was with an LG phone tho, so YMMV.

Yeah I've got Verizon. I just tried that and it wont let me send MP3s that are on my microSD card. Might be different with the LG phones.

and i have no idea what YMMV means.

I don't have any experience with that particular phone but what I found for all my phone's was that if they do support mp3 ringtones, there is a limit on size. The size is either a physical size on disk limit (~300k) or time limit (~30s). I usually make my own ringtones from music I have using Audacity to cut out the section I want to use. Audacity is free and cross-platform. Highlight the section you want, check its size at the bottom (left I believe) and then File > Export Selection as mp3. Then I use bluetooth to send it to my phone. Also, some phone may require that the ringtones be placed in a certain folder on the phone. Hope this makes sense, good luck.
