Pioneer Radio with Sony Xplod Speakers
Turning the vol up with bass at level 2 of 6 and eq on gets really distorted and sounds like too much power are being pushed to them.
Radio is pioneer DEH-P5100UB and speakers are Sony Xplod XS-GT5726A 5x7" Radio is 50w x 4 max, 22w x4 continuous. Speakers are 2way coaxial 35w rated 4ohm 190 short term max power/peak power. is this setup fine or speakers are too weak? im adding a sub soon to pick up on the bass. |

did some researchin and finally found one with reviews. this guy has the same issue. so ill guess when i get my sub, ill get some quality speakers with it.
Mediocre ★★★☆☆3.0 "Better than my stock speakers, but not by much. Sound quality is distorted with average bass at med-high volume. I would hardly call Jenny Lewis "bass-heavy", so if you want something that thumps, keep looking Sony XS-GT5726A 5x7" 2- Way Car Audio Speaker Reviews | 3 reviews | Buzzillions.com |

You have to make sure the gain is always at max on the amp. If you are going to control the levels do it with the head unit. Speakers start to distort when the signal is weak but the volume is high. Hopefully that helps.

yeah sony doesnt make the best speakers. Im all alpine for speakers and rockford for a sub. crystal clear. sound system stuff is a for sure example of "you get what you pay for"

Also check if the speakers are wired + to + and - to -. sounds simple but easily done. They will still work but volume and clarity will suffer.

I usually go with Clarion head units, Rockford Amps for subs, Kenwood amps for smaller speakers. Subs vary for each individual. I listen to alot of country so I don't need it to boom but i do like them to pound. If you know the difference between the two you will know what I meant.

I dont have an amp yet so its all comming from the hu. those sony speakers i thought were good and were picked out from the bestbuy guy. what would be good 5x7 to get. i know alpine good like you said kanuck and irish, i can double check em. but i think i got that correct when these were installed last december. but ill check again.

On the sub, i have picked out a alpine type s 12" that will fit behind the rear bench and the amp will be a powerbass. but that could change since those were matched at a stereo shop.

Alpine does make good 5x7. Clarion also make a pretty neat setup where the speakers are two way but you can relocate the tweeter to the A pillars or into the dash or keep them in the speaker cone. Usually it's Sony Xplod headunits that fail before the speakers. Speakers are pretty simple technology so very few things could be wrong with the speakers. Also stay away from Sony Xplod amps. They tend to be way less power than what they are advertised as. Like i said, you are better putting too much power to the speaker than too little. I have been a DJ and sound setup guy for the past 8 years so I've run into many of these issues. Underpowered speakers blow 10-1 over overpowered speakers.
