Need some help with my IPHONE

Alright i have a 3G S and was attempting top load the latest software onto it. well it ran the setup for like aan hour then came back and said there was an error and it could not load. Then it asked me if i wanted to restore the old and i said yes. Then after a while it was locked up with nothing happening. Now wy computer won't even recognize it when i plug the phone in to the tether.?
Anyone have any help for me before i through this MF out the window?

Redownload the software from a different site. Restart your computer, and plug your phone into the computer. Open iTunes, and with your phone hold the sleep and home buttons down together for 15 seconds, then (without releasing the home button) release the sleep button and continue to hold the home button until iTunes recognizes it. It should say, "This iPhone must be restored." Then Shift Click (Windows) or Option Click (on a Mac) on the "Restore" option. Locate the software you downloaded and double click it. It should restore and be good as new!

Thanks. this is basically what i did after calling support...
I thought i lost all my data but i didn't!

Sorry I couldn't get to it fast enough

And yeah, it should've been backed up to your computer
