Looking at a New Laptop

OK folks my laptop while still performing good is on its last leg. Both screen hinges are broken the mic doesn't work anymore and the speakers work sometimes. So here are the two that I am thinking of. Don't mind the prices I will get it on base and they are comparably priced there.

First.

Toshiba - Qosmio Laptop with Intel® Core™ i5 Processor - Omega Black - X505-Q865

Second.

HP - Pavilion Laptop with AMD Turion™ II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor - Espresso Black - dv7-3165dx

So thoughts?

Are there some specific features you need? We just got the Lenovo below, happy with it, half the price of the others you listed. Seems like with laptops the performance difference between mid-pack and cutting edge is pretty minimal, way past diminishing returns for me.

What are you using the laptop for? Both laptops are fairly equal. The Toshiba will be a little higher performance, because of the 3 MB of cache.

Watch the Windows 7 version. The 64 bit version is required to address any memory above 4 gig. I noticed both laptops have the 64 bit OS.

I own both a Toshiba and an HP. The HP has lasted for a while, but the monitor on the newer Toshiba is a lot better.

I am getting ready to spend some significant time away from the family so I want one that I can video chat on. I also want the biggest bang for the buck since it is going to be my DVD player, data storage area and photo display while I am gone. So I guess my requirements are built in web cam and mike, DVD player preferably blu ray and at least a 17" screen.

I like the price of the HP,the blue ray player and that there is a high rating of 4.8 from
74 users. The toshiba has a few other advantages...but i think the hp deal is still a better bang for the buck.

That is actually the direction that I was leaning. My current laptop is an HP and other that the fact that the girls have ran by while it was plugged in and yanked it to the floor a few times it is a beast. If they hadn't done that I would have no issues with it.

We have those on the boat Jarrod and they are hunks of crap.

I ended up going with the HP. Mine finally went TU this morning. Luckily it stayed up long enough to get what I needed off of it.
