99% of the time it's the user, not the computer that's the problem. Oh the stories I could tell.

If that's the case I have some Cyrex CPUs and a few Seagate HDs for sale if you're interested. I'll throw in a box full of Chinese/Korean memory sticks too for free.
Of course I kid.

Oh please of course there were manufacturers that had issues from time to time with their products - if you haven't noticed the IT world is a little on the large side in terms products and commerce. I've been in this business for a LOOOONG time and am where I am today because I'm dammn good at it but users are just that - users - and if you pull the stats from any IS&T helpdesk/deskside team you'd find the majority of calls aren't crashed hard drives or memory parity errors as you alluded. At my office those stats are posted outside the helpdesk area and I walk by them every day. Generally it's the user making a mistake, not understanding something, or causing their own headache, plain and simple.

VERY true, however I don't ever recall builing any mission critical products than ran on Cyrex processors....

LOL, a point well made, I can also not recall, "my toolbar dissappeared" being faulty hardware either.
