Hello all.. I'm new to not only Ford, but to diesels as well. Yesterday (Tuesday the 23rd) bought a 2001 F350 crew, dually 2x4 long box 7.3 6 speed. It only had 78k miles on it and I got it for under $20,000. With a 3 yr 36k mile "everything" warranty.

Little about us.. we have a 5th wheel and boat and are in Newport crabbing and camping ALL THE TIME!! Some Fridays my wife will call me from work and say "hook up the 5er, ready the boat we are going coastal for the week end". Those always seem to be the best trips. We went crabbing 2 week ends ago, and got 12 keepers. Wife doesn't eat them, so if anyone in the area wants some fresh cooked crabs when we are over there.. give a yell!!

Awesome!! On any given week end we are there with boat and 5th wheel (we stay are the Newport Marina and RV park) we will catch, 12 to 24 crabs. We mostly give them away at the campsites. (been crabbing and cooking crabs for 30 yrs) Sometimes people look at you like "yeah, sure".. but I cook my own, I know they are safe to eat.

Wife tried them once, didn't like the taste.. I know.. whats up with that!!

This pair came right up to the boat that 2 week ends ago. My son actually fed them by hand. Not sure chicken (what we use for bait) was good for them.. but they liked it.

:ORG welcome:

I have a friend that commutes from Salem all the way up to Portland 5 days a week.
Sure Hollister! Or.. even better... come get some!!!

We go to Portland every 3 months.. and though I like the "funky rose city" HATE the traffic!!! I don't blame him living in Salem and driving to Portland. Think I would if I worked there too.

The 5er is easy.. I will have to upload some of the boat to photo bucket.. Boat is a SeaSwirl cuddy cabin, 5er is a 36 ft triple slide Carriage Carri Lite. All the comforts of home.. 6k onboard genny. The last pic is us in the RV lot at Chinook Winds casino this past July.

This is us at the RV marina in Newport. As you can see we have a Hummer H2 (wife pulls the boat with) and I was pulling that 5er with a gas 454.. When we go to the coast.. we spend about $300 in gas between the tuck, boat and Hummer.. Pulling the 5er I was only getting 7 mpg.. I sure this 7.3 will do a lot better. It pains us hard to spend that much for gas, but.. we have these toys.. and we are going to use them.

Yeah.. it's a monster.. it was killing that gas 454 in my GMC. It weighs about 15k loaded. Im sure the new Ford will out tow that GMC by a long, long shot. We wanted to buy a 2nd home, but thought this was way better. This way we can take it anywhere we want to go! We love it.

HAHA.. no, no hot tub! Seen a few motor homes with them.. but way, way way out of our price range!!

I found the previous owners phone number in the glove box.. Wasn't sure if I should but I did... I called him. Very nice person.. I"m glad I called. I asked if I needed a heads up on anything and he said "I LOVE that truck". He sold his 5th wheel so sold the truck. He towed his 34ft 5th wheel to New York from Calif.. He said at times he was getting 15mpg, others times 12mpg. Not hauling the 5th wheel 17. WOW.. that's going to be awesome. I use to my gas 454 getting 7mpg towing, and 9 empty.

Welcome to the good ole 7.3 club! I am sure I will see you around. I live South of you in Millersburg. My Grandmother lives in Salem, so I end up there a couple times a month.

Hopefully see you on the 9th in Newburg!

Thank you Layson... IS that your red truck? AWESOME!!! Yep.. going to Newburg on Saturday, but need the addy. It's blocked when posted on the forum. (safety... I get it).

Your in the Albany area.. my ole stomping grounds!!!

Thanks! Yep that would be my old 7.3L... LOL. Yes I am in Albany!

Oh yeah, I will be there.. 24.4 miles from my house! It will be nice to be able to talk to people about diesels instead of all the reading I have been doing. My eyes still burn! Been reading off and on for about 3 years. I always stopped when I read the repair costs. But I killed my gas 454 GMC pulling my heavy 5th wheel. It was time to buy and learn.

With this truck we bought, with the 3 yr 36k mile everything warranty and the upgrades already on it it was a no brainer. (The everything warranty isn't cosmetics and there is a $100 deductible pr visit)
