Colorado Questions

We're going skiing feb 25-mar 3 in crested butte. We will be coming from Texas. Are there any locals that can steer me in the right direction as far as typical road conditions. We usually go to wolf creek in pagosa or Durango and are familiar with the passes. Are there any passes near CB the require chains or sections that the county doesn't tend to very well?

Also, my bride would like to do a snowmobile tour. Can anyone recommend an outfit or advise against any.

Thanks

Brett

Sounds pretty easy. Monarch pass is the only pass you may be unfamiliar with. All of the roads to the ski resorts are well plowed and maintained. Crested Butte is no exception.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about snowmobile rentals out here.

All major passes and roads are very well maintained. You should not need chains if you have decent tires and 4x4. I go down there a few times a year but I usually come from up north. I checked the weather and you should have clear sky's. It's been so nice around here that all the roads are dry. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Got caught with bad weather in the pass going up wolf creek in the past and was just wondering if I needed chains or not. I think I'll hold off. Hoping this late in the season it'll be mild weather.

What do you mean south? I'm already way down south by Houston! Any other tips for the weather. Going to run our Texas diesel till I get closer to CO then switch to what I can find there. Planning on gray bottle power service.

That's pretty slick. Thx

he means the wet mountain range and sand-de de-cristo range er how ever it's spelled. later in winter/early spring is when the tend to get the heavy fast moving storms that can drop 1-3 feet in a night....as far as power service I'd just make sure you have winter blend (not sure if they do that down by you) to help from gelling.

What this nation needs is cleaner thoughts and dirtier fingernails...

yea the weather has been great as everyone has said, and just fyi, the grey bottle of power service does nothing for anti-gel, the white bottle does but either way you probably wont need it if you get a winter blend fuel up here
