Handicap Excursion
Hey there,
I was wondering if there are any excursion owners in the CSP, I have two handicap boys who are in wheelchairs, I want to build a truck to accomodate them, I really want to build them a excursion If there is anyone on here who has one I really need the measurements of the back hatch and the rear cargo area. I have been trying to contact some companies that build handicap accessable vehicles but they are being dicks and wont do anything other than build me a van! ![]() If there is anyone who does fab work I would like to talk to them about building the lift, Thanks |

I have an '05 Excursion with a handicap wife. I load up her electric chair manually but my back is telling me I need a chair lift.
. The lift gate at the back when open is a little lower then the opening even with the back of the truck. I have looked at a number of different kinds lifts but I feel the the power lift / rotate winch type will work best. I can give you what measurements you want, just let me know.

I have come up with a design that will roll out of the back of the truck, like a drawer. A frame would slide out of the back, then 4 wires would lower a tray that the wheel chairs would strap to and then be lifted and slide back into the truck and latch to the floor. I need the Measurements of the:
Width of the back hatch Highth of the back hatch The depth of the cargo area to the back of the second row of seats. I have drawn up some ideas I will try and post them soon, The internet is slow here in Afghan. Your input is Greatly appreciated, I will get the measurements of the boys in their chairs from my wife soon. |

![]() This is a rough idea of my plan, If I need to explain please let me know. I have a friend with a shop in Colorado Springs, He builds some nice rigs and i think he is just the guy to help with this, I just need to get all my measurements strait. |

That is an amazing idea Mason!!! I like it. I don't know much about lifts and what not, but if you every need a hand, do not hesitate to ask!

Here are the measurements of my Excursion. At floor level it is 55" wide but the spare tire takes up a little over 5" of that. So if can hang the spare off the back somehow you would have the full 55". Height is 37", both numbers are taken at the narrowest part, the hatch/door area. If you roll out the third row bench you have 75" to the back of the second row bench or buckets depending on vehicle options. The floor is all flat and level with exception of 11" behind the second row seating where it is 3" lower straight across. Hope this helps.

Are you planning on having them remain seated in the wheelchairs while in the vehicle?
If so height is gonna be a huge issue |
