Late summer/early fall 2014 GTG planning thread

So Brandon and I have been talking about doing something like this since I left WA. I don't want to start an official GTG thread yet. This thread is for planning. The goal is a GTG mid-way between Tacoma and Albuquerque. The Reno, NV area is one possibility but if you have any other ideas post them up. It was about a 24 hour drive from Silverdale to Albuquerque so I would like to keep the driving for everyone to the 12-14 range max.

I would also like everyone's thoughts on opening this up to other .org members outside of CCR. Before we do, I think we should have the planning side of this taken care of and the details locked down.

Here is what we need:

Destination
Campground with access for large trailers
Something to do (tourist stuff)
Suggested Dates (probably before school starts)
Group rates/discounts
Group camping area or picnic pavilion for the traditional group pot-luck
Length of time you are able to stay.

...and anything else I may be forgetting.

Sub'd!!! That park looks cool....and it's not on a lake. lol

I also been lookin at some maps this am an thinkin somewhere near the Great Salt Lake would be cool too and still looks to be central. CCR members could convoy too cause it's on I84 so the farther east we go more people could join in. That would move us east some to provide a shorter drive for more eastern attendees. No time right now to look up campgrounds but I will later on.

I forgot to mention in my initial post but I should know if we are moving again within the next month. That may affect our ability to attend.

I'm not worried yet. I don't think we would move until after the new year in 2015.

Not sure on when or where we are moving to yet. I should know about February.

I think we should open it up to anyone. We could be slightly open and say just people from the states we travel through. Or, we could open it up to the entire org.

Good deal Scott.

I say open to the entire .org! I don't want to exclude anyone that wants to make the trek to meet up with us. Hell, another 1000mi east and we could get some people from way the heck over there. A multi state/chapter g2g would be awesome!

The group areas would definitely be a must for this operation whether it we group sites or a group gathering area for pot luck as Scott mentioned.

Lots of thinking out loud here. Once we as CCR figures out a few areas that look good we should look for local .org members to give us some feedback. I think we should also avoid a holiday weekend in order to have more spaces available for the GTG.

I am open to the SLC area as well. That may attract folks from ID, MT, UT, and CO as well. It might be cool to have the two top GTG chapters to have a combined GTG outside their chapter borders.

Hell ya, that would be mint. I wish some others would chime in here......hello, anyone else home???

The dates I had in mind were from July 26th to August 10th. Not all days but it's a good window between the 4th of July and Labor day. Thoughts???
