Need Help: Scanner near Wake Forest?
Coming home from Asheboro yesterday pulling a 9,000 lb. travel trailer, the OD light on my '02 F250 PSD (135K miles) started blinking. The tranny seemed to be working fine - no slipping, no harsh shifts, etc. Stopped for fuel and when I restarted the truck the blinking light went away. Checked the fluid and it was good.
I'm in Wake Forest, NC (near Raleigh). Is there anyone within an hour of so of here who could run a scan on this for me? If so, please send me a PM. Thanks. Last edited by Wide Right : 10-26-2009 at 11:20 AM. Reason: Clarify location |

Yes, the speedo was working at the time. We were on Route 64, which is fairly hilly. I was running in OD on the flat areas and then I would turn it off for the hills. I ended up switching back and forth a fair bit, because the flats don't last very long out there. Probably should have just left OD off. However, the needle on the stock tranny temp gauge was right where it always is. Thanks for the offers on the scanners, but you guys are all at least a couple hours away. I think I'll probably have Trucks Unlimited look at it, since it needs a new steering box anyway. Any idea how long the code will stay in memory? |

Scott will do you right, he's one of the very few who I would ever let touch my truck. Now for some education, Forget the so called trans gauge Ford gave you with the truck. They have been proven time and time again to be worse than a idiot light and not even close to being accurate. Get a real aftermarket gauge and you will see what I mean, or just google it!! It will take a temp of 280 degrees to even show warm on the stock gauge. Next, why were you shifting out of OD? Ford recommends this on their small Rangers and Expo's but not on a superduty!! These trucks are meant to tow, I have hauled my 9500lb TT all over the east coast and have never taken it out of OD, the trans will downshift when it needs to, and doing it to soon can cause major damage. I hope it is something simple and that you will stick around here and become a member of the CPA. Have a great weekend. NCH |

Thanks for the info, NCHornet. My next purchase will be an aftermarket tranny temp gauge.
Not sure what I was thinking by shifting out of OD. I had read a bunch of threads on here about towing in OD vs. out of OD, and my head was spinning from all the different opinions. From now on, I'll just leave it in OD and keep an eye on the new temp gauge. Thanks again for the info and advice. |
