aero mods, 5th wheel, wind deflector, cab ext.?

Does anybody know if there is any gain to be had be performing aero mods to our trucks while pulling a 5th wheel?
I am thinking about a wind deflector, cab ext., air dam, etc.
Is there any proof of gains?

well i know there are gains to be made on the truck when empty. there is a guy on PSN that built a few airdams and gets 27 mpg with them and gears. Not too sure what can be done when you are hauling a giant wall behind you!

Look at any semi going down the road. They wouldn't put wind deflectors on the top of the cab if they didn't help.

I've seen it discussed on an RV Forum (TrailerLifeDirectory). The discussion goes both ways. Some see improvement, but not a big one - Others have seen none.

Most of the deflectors I've seen don't cover the whole front of the trailer like the OTR Trucks do. To me, it seems less effective.

Based on what I read - I've chosen not to use one. For me, it's too much money for the small gain that may or may not happen.

I have 3.73 gears in mine - I get 9.5 to 11 towing my 12Klb 5th wheel depending on terrain, # of hills I climb and how fast I drive. Just my two cents....

BTW, Welcome to PS.org - Glad to have U!!
