West Texas/Davis Mtns/Big Bend area suggestions

We have made reservations at Davis Mountains State Park for spring break week (3/15-3/20), but we're looking for suggestions on activities. It's me (50 yrs old, fat, and out of shape), my wife, and two sons (22, 15). We have a 35ft 5er and will be staying at DMSP the entire week. We plan to make "day trips" throughout the week , that's why we are looking for ideas. We will also have our mountain bikes with us.

We camped there a couple of years ago, but only for three days. We did the observatory, Marfa lights, and the Ft Davis historic site. We are not opposed to visiting those again, but want some different things too.

We would like to make a day trip to Big Bend. We've never been into BB, and I know it's impossible to see much in a day trip, but is it worth the drive from Ft Davis to spend a day there? Suggestions?

Any other ideas would be very welcomed.

Thanks,
Mark

oh it's awesome down there
we haven't been in about 3 years i guess now but the last time we went, we took "The Loop" lol
i forget what it's called but it's the scenic loop, i think it is anyway, that runs from Ft. Davis through Alpine, down along the Rio Grande, then back up through Marfa.
if it's not, this is the loop we took lol
we went down to Terlingua via Alpine, took Ranch Rd 170 to Presidio, then back up through Marfa
you are RIGHT along the river. we didn't take the trailer cause we didn't have it but i wouldn't really wanna pull a BIG one through there

It's been many years since I visited BB, we actually stayed with a friend in Lajitas, and was it nice.

That was about 25 years ago and the golf course and museum was there and not much more, but from what I here they have made some really nice improvements. I really like that part of the State.

Good luck and have fun.
