RV Exterior Question

My 5th wheel has aluminum siding. I need to replace the baggage door holders and also the electrical cable hatch. My question is what is behind all of the exterior mounted accessories? Is it a gasket, sealer? Once i take the old stuff off i want to make sure i have the right stuff when i put it back together.

I wish I could help but I have no idea what is behind the siding. Your best bet might be to call a tt dealer and talk to someone in repairs. I also like to have everything on hand to complete a job. Good luck and let us know what is behind the aluminum.

Not sure on the Aluminum siding - I have the flat fiberglass/gelcoat siding. They put a putty type stuff behind the openings that seal it against the siding. I agree with NCDeerHunter, check with a dealer or repair facility.

It's cool to watch the 'How It's Made' videos. Everything is orchestrated to install everything in order.

I use putty, but it's not the sticky stuff. Non butyl putty. I run a strip on the item going on, and then in the valleys of the siding, I stuff it so that it comes up level to the high spots on the siding.

And just cause they do it one way at the factory, doesn't mean it's the best :

Thanks for the video. It's pretty neat seeing how they make them. The stuff on mine kinda seems like a putty but i am not positive. I will see what i find out and let you guys know. Thanks.
