Not the Smartest Move

We were hanging out at deer camp Sat. night. I had purchased a bottle of cinnamon Red Stag. I was not very impressed. Sony got curious anti how a bottle of 80 proof alcohol would respond to being tossed in a fire. I was confident that it would heat the glass until it cracked and when the alcohol leaked out it would burn something like lighter fluid. Hot and fast but not really an explosion. My buddy felt it would be more like a bomb. Whoever was wrong was responsible for covering the cost of the bottle. I decided to video the occasion a I sat 3-4 feet from the fire. My buddy thought 30-40 feet was a safer distance.

Who won? See for yourself.......

FYI Skip ahead to about 1:54

And I agree, my cousin gave me bottle of the Black Cherry Red Stag for my birthday, I cant stand it's almost sickly sweet. Should mix well though. Funny thing is I got 2 bottles of Jameson from other friends on that same birthday........

Was that one of those "Hold my beer and watch this" moments?

For about 1/2 second before blowing up and sending a chard of glass through the wall of the tent and hitting me in the shoulder with another.

Sounds like the cap was on tight, and held pressure. It basically boiled the booze, and when you do that all the alcohol evaporates. Pressure got to the point where the cap wouldnt hold, shot the cap off, and the vaporized alcohol made a nice flame. Probably would have done the same thing with water, except it wouldnt have made a nice flame.

my $.02
