If you leave them out you are just exposing more of the trailer to the weather. The best thing to do is keep them closed unless you need to get in and do something and keep the trailer covered with something tarp, cover, building ect... Don't forget to cover the tires if stored for a long time. The sun will dry rott your tires and a blown tire on a travel trailer can cause alot of damage.

A little tip for stored RV's. I pulled mine out on saturday and the A/C would kick on for about 30 seconds and kick off again. Climbed up on top and removed the cover and found a mud dobber nest inside that held the fan from turning. Knocked it off and life was good. Just a little hint for anyone with the same situation. |

Yeah, I hear ya! My wife and I spent about 6 months deciding on our current toy hauler. We ended up going with a few upgrades and these might be some things to think about as well:

I bough used from a friend. No problems. It is a bunkhouse. The sacrifice I made getting the BH is that you lose the big window in the back, but pick up a small bedroom in the back. Without the window, it seems close inside. A trade-off I guess. You might try renting several different types first, and feel what you like and dislike. |

Buying advice
Buy a used one. And do not buy anything from Forest River. Workmanship is awfull. If you but a used, someone else has had to deal with the inept dealer. Anything warranty on a camper is avoided like the plague at just about any dealer. so it is easier to pay your own way. Same with dealing with an extended warranty. The warranty may pay, but you still have to deal with the dealer. I had two Fleetwood campers over the years, and I was very happy with both. Both were used when purchased, and gave years of good service. My brand new Sierra 375QBQ has been back twice to the dealer, and half the stuff they worked on is still not right. All of the issues came from the manufacturer, and all of it was missed by the dealer at PDI. Had to actually convince them the slides were not adjusted properly by showing them the drawers on the back wall could not be opened as the slide was too far in. They insisted it was my imagination up to that point. I am thinking about not even bothering to take back again. The warranty is of little value unless a major appliance fails, as anything else is accepted as "normal". Buy used, use the money you saved to fix any problems, and good luck finding a good place to get it fixed.

Thanks, I have just decided to buy used. I do not want to take a beating on it if I decide to upgrade after a year or two. I know that I will loose money either way but maybe not so much if I buy used. I sure am reading a lot of horror stories on campers and problems. It is making me a little nervous.
