Rule of thumb is at least 6" and preferrably 8". I have about 7" clearance on mine and have made contact with the rear of the truck backing the trailer up over a grade change.

That is the only correct way to do it.....Just remember it will be a little more top heavy.... It will work. You cant use a block because the spring is under the axle..

We had this discussion in my suspension thread on the truck -- appears I have the camper package which makes my rear end stiff as hell!!!

Anthony -- what sorta labor does a shop generally charge to flip the axles... b/c there is no way in hell I can do it myself

I couldn't see what your axles looked like in the picture but if they're like mine it wouldn't make a bit of difference flipping them... Mine are essentially round tubes so there would be no difference either way they were turned... It does have welded in beams as blocks to have it ride at an appropriate hight for 4x4 trucks... See what a dealer will tell you about raising it or other adjustments that can be made... I have at least 7 or 8 inches of clearance between the bottom of the trailer and the top of the bed of my truck... It's nice to know I don't have to worry about crunching my bed or trailer for sure...

Ken....
