Hailstorm

I'm wondering what everybody does with their truck while camping in a hailstorm. Right now we are sitting in the beautifull black hills in South Dakota with a bunch of severe thunderstorm warnings with basesball size hail. Their isnt much anybody can do i dont believe. I'm thinking about parking in the Mt. Rushmore parking ramp, until their gone. I'm just wondering what everyone else does. And if you ever get the chance come up to the black hills, they are amazing.

Oh man good luck I hope you don't get hit! Not much you can do if you don't have a garage or overpass to park under. Not sure trees are a good idea as the storm might blow the tree over on your truck! I was in the Black hills about 25 years ago and it was awesome

I wouldn't mind some hail. It is 111* outside right now.

As for camping. Use a bat. just a thought. I would worry more about my noggin.

I'd get under a tree, overpass, or anything. Take a risk with the tree.

If trees aren't available then spread sleeping bags over the hood, roof, and glass. Believe it or not the bags help. Maybe not against baseball-sized, but with the smaller stuff.

Good luck.

It's pretty bad timing, because there are a lot of motorcycles up here stoping to check out Mt. Rushmore on there way to Sturgis, Some of them headed toward the Mt. Rushmore parking ramp. I might follow them. I guess a nearby town got hit really hard but they are a bit north, so hopefully we miss it.

We got kind of lucky and the hail missed us, but hit hill city very hard. The newspaper said they got the snowplow out to clear it. I highly recommend the campground we stayed at. Hill City/Rushmore KOA. The staff was great they helped tent campers set tents up after storm, cleaned cabins that were swamped, and they helped everyone out. They also have tons of stuff for little kids to do, i went with 4 nephews, it was a blast. Rushmore was pretty cool with all the clouds and fog too. If you get the chance visit the Black Hills they are gorgeouse.
