Other than a bit more bucking (I'll give you that one), there is no "handling" difference. I have seen a gooseneck adapter with a built-in shock and I was told it got rid of the bucking. Don't remember the brand. I have the POP-IT (I think?) brand gooseneck adapter with the 5" offset and it's great with my short box. I have the same clearance over the bed rails as everyone else, and have never come close to hitting them. Also, the adapter is height-adjustable which is a bonus. Set it where you need it.

My trailer weights in at approx. 14K loaded, and the set-up works great for me. Best of all, there is no 5'ver hitch in my bed or garage when I'm not towing. 15 seconds to turn over the ball and I'm done.

When I bought my 03 350, it came with a B&W Turnover ball already installed.

At the time I had a 27' bumper pull, then the wife decided that we needed a little more room, so we bought a 31' 5th wheel. I didnt have the cash for the Companion hitch, so I went with the cheaper conversion for the gooseneck.

That thing beat the crap out of us, we go camping almost every weekend and on our vacations, so I saved and got the Companion...

Total difference in the ride, the only bucking I get is when the road is really rough.

I like the companion because when you pull the hitch out, your bed is empty.

I will see if I can post a picture of the setup.

I was wondering about this last year and stuck a magcam in the in the bed.

JMO but I'm happy with this adaptor that I built. I have sense, cut off that "drive in hitch" and welded a drop over ball coupling in it's place.

Thats a great lookin set-up. The camera view looks good. How does it feel in the cab? Looks like your bouncing quite a bit during the drive. How much does a set-up like that cost?

Sorry for slow response, had to stay focused at work.

The hitch was on the RV when purchased new and the trailer axles are on air also.
I can't tell you what the added cost of the air ride was but it's well worth every penny.

The trailer is bouncing but very little transfers though the hitch.

I can post some pic's on the adaptor if anybody is interested

I have a 36' 5th and a B&W set up with the companion. When I turn 90* it's close but it will turn. so the B&W is a sweet way to go.

My buddy has the trailair on his and says its the best thing in the world. he is always trying to convince me to get one. this summer I am gonig to hook to his 5th and pull it and see if its as great as he says it is. his 5th is 38 feet and 13500 empty and i think a little over 2100 pin? My little 5er is only 33 feet, 10k, and maybe 1400 pin.

We pull a 30' cougar 5th wheel and I use the Pull Rite 16k Superglide hitch. They run about 500-800 bucks more than the avg 5th wheel hitch but they are worth there weight in gold. It is the only true auto sliding hitch and if you have a short bed like I do you will fall in love with it. This thing slides 14" back automatically and I can put my 5th wheel in a 45 and it clears my roof by 12". Never have to worry about pulling levers or this r that. I would never buy anything else and these things are beefy.
