Exclamation Dometic Refrigerator Recall

I just found out today that Dometic has issued a recall on it's two door refrigerators manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003, the effected units can catch fire. You can find out if your frige is affected on their website www.dometicusa.com
Thought all the campers here should know about this. Good luck.

Hey Guys and gals I am new to this site but anyway. I am a rv service tech at a dealer ship here in South Beloit Il..

If your fridge is one that has a recall take it to your local dealer they have a recall kit that goes in the back of the fridge's it takes about 10 min and doesn't cost you a thing other than taking it in.

The recall kit consist of a few more heat shields and basically another thermostat that cuts the fridge off if it gets to hot.

Our unit is included in the recall but it just recently quit working on both gas and electric. i can smell ammonia in the back of the unit. Will the recall fix the fridge?

if you can smell ammonia than your fridge is toast. Look at spending over $800 to replace it because they are sealed systems and can't be recharged

Here's an update for you guys: Dometic recall

You'll find that it's now through 2006 models. I guess I'm going to have to get the information off of mine.

Ken....
