many camper siding material referred to is actually a stuff called Filon (which is a plastic). Wood paneling is then laminated to the Filon and used for camper siding. the only way to truly repair is to replace the entire side. Very spendy. I am guessing that some of the awning anchoring screws missed the studs so the awning is stressing the Filon exterior (when the awning whips in the wind or even driving down the highway). Can you pull the paneling on the inside? take a look?
