Question for you truck campers with DP Tuners. Are you using a Tow Tune when hauling? Do you use it only on the flats or in the hills too? I have an Auto tranny and i'm a bit worried about what i might do to it even in the 40T tune when i'm in hills or even a strong headwind.

The truck campers do make alot of sense to me, being able take the unit in and out is the appeal. I looked long and hard at Lance and Artic Fox, both top end units.
The only concern we had was being legal you do need a whole lota truck and we simply did not have the price of admission.

I have taken about ten camp trips since buying my camper, but i've only unloaded it once at the campsite and that was on a very flat paved slab. before i bought it i had a camper trailer which i unhitched at every campsite, leveled up, and had use of my truck. perhaps i'll start unloading it more often at the campsite as i get more confident in my ability to get it back on the truck in situations where the ground isn't exactly firm or level. the places i like to camp are usually in the boonies. owners manual says i shouldn't worry if the max difference between the extended length of jack legs stays under 4", but i haven't tried yet.

I think it's talking about all four legs. Between the one extended the most and the one extended the least, in order to get the camper level. Just my owner manual, my jacks, my camper... may not apply to everyone. I've read some guys unload their camper everywhere they go, even on some very lumpy ground. Actually, it's not the unloading part that makes me nervous, it's the idea of backing up to load it when the camper must remain lifted high and level but the truck won't be level when i lower the camper.

i try to stay pretty level if i unload, i had a deal once where it was pretty uneven ground the jacks would move when i tried to let it down ,i finally loaded it then took it to some level ground and reloaded if the ground is level or say a rv pad and a campground i have no problem taking it off to use the truck. it helps to have remote jacks if i had to hand crank it may never come off the truck.

ya that is why i went with a camper at first i was going to buy a boat and did not really want to pull doubles it looks cool and all but what a pain to have to make sure where ever you pull in you have to make sure you don't have to back up to far.or take one trailer off then have to hook up to another to go launch the boat.i love fifth wheel and toy haulers but the more i look at them to get the space i have in a 14 ft trailer that i pull behind the camper i would need a pretty good size toy hauler.besides i don't have to smell the gas fumes from the bikes, and when you just have the camper on you can park just about any where.the air bags help a bunch as far as having enough truck.never did get a boat maybe one day.
