I live in San Diego, and drove almost 2 hours to look at an 04 F250 powerstroke 4x4 4 dr, tan leather blue exterior truck. When I got there I looked at the truck, and everything checked out OK. It had a 5th wheel attachment which I really didnt like. Then I take it out on a test drive. She is kind of a pooch, but I didnt know that much about the power in the powerstrokes. I then look down and notice that a 'check engine' light is on. We then get back to the dealer and I tell them that I want to know what the code is and how to run the monitors on it, so I can see if they actually fixed the problem or put a band-aid on it.
Then numbers come up. They had the truck listed for 16,422. We do some negotiating and they come back with 18402 out the door. More negotiating, and we come up with 17800. About 15 min goes by and I wonder how they crunched the numbers...So I did it my way. I took the cost of the truck, added the tax making the assumption that it would be at an 8% rate, and that came up to $1400, and I assumed registration would be $400. This brought the total cost of the truck to 18200. So I thought to myself where did the other $200 go. When I questioned them about it, they kind of brushed me off and got very defensive. They then said "ok, lets go over the breakdown". When I looked at it these *******s were trying to charge me a $55 paperwork fee, and on top of that they were trying to charge me $50 for the SMOG. I called them out on it, and they immediately got defensive saying that it was the responsibility of the buyer to pay for the smog. At that point I was like F___ you guys, and walked out.
I would not encourage any person to go to that dealership. My touring edition has way more power and will cost me about $1700 less and have 10K miles less on it.
If you do decide to go, make sure that you clearly state that you areent going to pay for that crap.
