Bed cutting question

under my 99 7.3 short beds liner is a whole world of rust, theres a hole behind the cab you can see to the ground. My question is, to save myself a headache can i just cut a hole in the floor of the bed to access the fuel level sending unit without hitting the tank? The beds done for anyway, i just dont want to ruin the fuel tank. Anyone know clearance or if this is possible?

sure IMHO and just IMHO LOL
i often though they should sell a patch panel for some vehicles
I almost did it to my Astro van

the problem I can see is disconnecting the lines that are on top of the tank if you don't cut out a large area so I would try those first

the tank won't be touching the bed and you can likley slide a sheet metal guard in there while cutting but choose the cutting tool wisely a sawzall won't be the best LOL
