Can Kerosene Be Used to Fuel a Diesel?

I was just wondering if I could put Kerosene in my diesel. I stopped to fuel up yesterday, and the station I stopped at had a Kerosene pump right next to a Diesel pump, and a sticker on it said: "Not For Use in Highway Diesel Trucks or Engines", didn't say anything about it damaging the engine, I'm just curious, because it was cheaper, and was wondering if it would make the engine run cleaner and more efficient.
Thanks.

It would probably burn but not sure how your injectors would like it. I'm not to familiar with kerosene or how well it's refined. I would'nt try it.

Kerosene is basically the same as #1 diesel fuel or jet-a fuel. P-50 gel point #1 diesel becomes Jet-a thru extra filtration.

Kerosene has less BTU per gallon and thus less power than #2 Diesel. It also contains far less lubricating properties than the much dreaded ULSD that everybody keeps raving is going to ruin your injectors and pumps. Running straight K-1 in modern diesels is not advisable.

Thanks everyone for letting me know. I just found it odd that they put it right next to the diesel pump.

I see it next to the diesel pumps a lot where I live. I think a lot of truckers used to use K1 to cut diesel with as an anti-gel. Plus a lot of people use it for heating around here too.

What I don't understand, is the price of kerosene is usually a heck of a lot more expensive than diesel. I pay $3.70 a gallon in portland and I have seen it over $4.00 a gallon.

I worked at an oil company and we would add kero to our LSD in the winter to keep it from geling up.You can run fuel oil in your truck its the same as off road Diesel.Off road is dyed red so the DOT can detect it.Its used for home heating oil.Hope this helps
