There is an online video on that link (or a link it sends you to for purchase) that walks you through the entire process. I figure the thing would pay for itself in just under two years. I'm sure I could find a restaurant in Houston that would be more than happy to give me their used vegetable oil for free. I'm tossing around the idea of buying the equipment. My only problem is - I pay a guy to cut my friggin grass so am I REALLY gonna MAKE my own fuel, or will the novelty of the whole thing wear off before it's paid for itself? |

Burnin' bio
I think that before I make any decision on whether to take on making my own diesel that i'll wait a while and see if it becomes as popular as everything else out there for diesel trucks. I also think it would be difficult to obtain the used veggy oil for free. I'm not sure, but I think they actually get money from outside companies for there used oil. There's only one way to find out though!

Welcome Johnny!! You wouldn't happen to have a write up on how you do it would you? The more I fuel at the pump the more interested I become. 99Smokin - I figure that SOMEWHERE around Houston I could find someone tired of paying to have it hauled off and would give it away to loose that cost. BUT - if I did decide to buy that system to make Bio, I'd be sure to have arranged all that before I made the purchase. |

The "Trucks" show this weekend is what brought it up. There are also articles to read about it at http://www.biodieselsolutions.com/home/useful_links.asp According to some of these guys, as long as you can get a restaurant or someone who uses large amount of cooking oil to give you their old oil, it can be made for 70 cents a gallon. There are also a lot of plans for it that you can get on Ebay. How many of these are legit I don't know. |

Define Refine....
Well we're not really too far behind here in Indy. I saw it for 2.79 up from about 2.50 a few days back. I hope that diesel is a little slower catching up to the jacked up regular gasoline price. Man i'm gonna be hurtin if it gets too much past 3 per gallon. As a self employed business owner (Painting biz) I need fuel to get me to jobsites every day. I do it all myself most of the time which saves me some money, but higher prices are just going to eat up the money I do save. Plus it's gonna cut into my play money! I need that playtime money for better performance parts!! grrrrr.....

I figured I'd slow down a bit to improve my mileage, so since I've filled up a couple of days ago I've changed my driving habits drastically. It's not easy in Houston to only do 10 over on I-10 without getting run the hell over.......unless its rush hour. ![]() WOOHOO! Post 100! :p |
