SVO in all its glory is NOT the best route for every situation. It wasnt for mine, I contemplated it for a while, and it just wouldnt work. So my new choice was pump fuel or Bio. So I am learning to make bio. Congrats on your perfect set up.

Hi Shane,
I see that you have a bottle of phenol red in your titration set-up. Do a PH test on your wash water. If the spent wash water has the same PH as the water that you started your wash with then you have a thorough wash.
With the drying, if your dried product is nice & clear and a sample will stay clear overnight in an open jar you should be OK. I use a 1.5 kw quartz heater element in my wash tank; when no more small bubbles rise off the element I know my product is dry.
I have found that the most important thing is not to rush the steps - the longer you leave the glycerine to settle the better [ as with washing & drying]. I have a good stock of Bio built up now and only need to do one batch per week. I have a batch in my reactor at present that was done 5 days back and each morning I still get a little glycerine from the bottom of the tank.
Minimal glycerine = minimal soap = minimal washing!
You have done a fine job of your plant.

one way to test for a great wash mix a mason jar half full of water and half full of bio and shake that bad boy like it's goin out of style clear seperation means good to go....and on the drying part you should be able to "tell" when it is done by taking samples

WOO HOO!!!! Finally got some things figured out and woke up this morning to a beautifull batch of clean, dried Bio!!! It was raining so I didnt bother putting it in the truck, but after I got to work, the rain stopped, and I ran back home and dumped her in!! Truck is doing just fine(wouldnt know the difference if I didnt tell you I was running different fuel). After consulting some of the pros, and informing them that I drive a 7.3, they said"Fill it up 100%!!! That truck loves this stuff!!" So I did. My fuel light was on, and I had a nice 18 gallons to put in her. I was nervous and excited all at the same time. Heres the pic of me doin my first Bio pour, and a couple of the fuel this morning. The pour pic was taken with phone, so its not the best.

First Pour!!!

First completed batch(Notice my fingers thru the fuel)

Yesterday, this same fuel looked like this!! LOL!!

I'm kind of interested in making bio and i want to know about how much are you into the intial cost of the heater, lines and all the chemicals. My next question is where do you get the oil from?

Well, thats a loaded question. LOL!! I found a "dented/damaged" water heater at a supply house and scored it for 65 dollars. I just purchased the rreactor and wash tank kits from Utah Bio so I wouldnt have to run around hunting parts. That along with collection drums welding fees, valves, etc, etc, I am around the thousand dollar mark. It can be done for less if you order the parts lists and go get all the materials yourself, but I didnt want to do that. Also, start looking for QUALITY oil suppliers. Popular opinion is Chinese places are the best. They must change often because of the shear nature of chinese food. If they dont chage often, all the foods will taste the same. Go to Utah Biodiesel Supply and there is a TON of info on there. Good Luck!! Oh, start studying and reading now, and continue for a couple months. You will be glad you did.
