Veggie oil

CHenry,

Thanks, thats some really good info. Makes you wonder what happens to the contaminated oil after it is picked up. If it is recycled, I wonder how the lye is extracted.

There is no telling....all kinds of crap ends up in those grease dumpsters i imagine...waste motor oil, cleaning chemicals battery acid, industrial waste...the list is endless. Anyone could potentially see a dumpster and see it as a place to dispose of something they can't just pour in there drain.
That grease is used to make cosmetics, animal feed and who knows what else.

So from what I gather if you're running the vegistroke kit you just go around to resturants and ask for their old oil? Or are there other places to get it. I'm thinking about converting mine and just have a few questions. Thanks!

Basically, yes. I have established two places that are willing to put there old oil back into the 5 gallon jugs it comes in when they order it new. I go by on Fridays after work to both places - which are strategically located on my way home - and pick up 3-5 jugs a week from each place. These places are owned by a guy i kinda know and that made it easier to get etablished in this.
Pick a resturant that you frequent - where maybe they know you - and simply ask to speak to the manager and tell him what your doing and that you would like to take there used oil off there hands. These places pay a rendering company to dispose of there oil so if you remind them that this will save them money too then they will let you have all of it you want.
Get on Vegistroke.com and there are some plans there to make a filtering unit to clean the oil up to make it ready to burn in the truck. While your there, email Jason Crawford and talk to him a little bit. Hes a very nice guy to deal with and very smart about this stuff.
Tell him I refered you.

oh, and there also is a few guys i have heard of buying it in bulk...new oil that is ready to burn. %% gallons at a time and they said it was running them about 1.50 per gallon that way.
Sams and Costco is another option. At Sams you can get 5 gallon jugs for 13 bucks or 2.60 per gallon. So when i am traveling cross country and diesel prices are 3.50, i can stop ant a Sams and buy 90 gallons of new oil and still save .90 per gallon that way. Its also fun to watch people in the parking lot at Sams when they walk by and see me pouring this into the tank.

You can not dewater vegi oil with that.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there is no way to dewater oil on the fly ....heat and settle is about your only choice.
