Please let me know what you guys think of this system cuz me and my buddy and a neighbor were all thinking of getting into the vegi thing for summer time fuel. It gets to cold up here for winter time! Can you switch back and forth between the fuels?

I know pwople in MN, Cannida, Montana, Alaska....just to name a few, that run vegi oil all year round with no problems. The PSD is the ultimate candidate for winter time use because the fuel rails inside the head are the main heat exchanger to heat the oil before injection. those rails are inches away from the cylindars if you look at a cutaway of a PSD you will see what i mean.

Veggie oil

I was also looking into the same setup. I investigate alot before making any major moves, maybe to much but... What happened to your injectors? I remember reading somwhere you had to replace your injectors. Was it caused by the oil, and do the late PSD's (06) have a potential problem with veggie oil setup?

Thanks

No the oil had nothing to do with my injector problem. What was IN the oil did. I trracked down the sorce of the issue and what happened is i collected oil from the resturants grease dumpster one time. That oil had been contaminated with Sodium Hydroxid....a caustic that reacts rapidly with aloys such as Zink and Plantinum.... two metals that are used to make hardened injectors. I had an injector tested by a specialist at Swamps Diesel and also a sample of the oil was sent to a petrolium chemist and it was obvious that the injector had been "etched" from a caustic or acid. Then the fuel test showed it was indeed a caustic - to quote the chemist, "very caustic". After this i went to the resturant and asked the head cook what they used to clean there fryers and grills. He showed me - sodium hydroxid is what they used. I then asked him how they clean it. He said after they drain the oil, they mix this chemical with water, pour it in the fryer, let it clean by simply soaking (it will just eat away the dirt and grease) then they drain it out and rinse it out. I asked what they do with the cleaning chemicals and water once they drain it out and he said we either pour it in the sink or sometimes into the grease dumpster...BINGO! I sucked up sodium hydroxid that was disolved into the oil and can't be filtered out.
A test experiment was done after this which involved a solution of vegi oil and lye (sodium Hydroxide) stired up well and then an injector part suspended into the solution and heated to 200* F. In two days etching of the metal was the result.
So if you guys get into vegi oil be very sure of the sorce of your oil. I have been collecting it in a manner that this can never happen again. The cookes drain the oil straght back into the 5 gallon jugs it came in when it was new. then they set it back untill i come pick it up. I will never trust dumpster oil again.
Trust me, after this experience I was very leary of continuing the use of vegi oil but after the test concluded what happened, Jason Crawford told me to keep using the oil as long as I was sure of my oil source, iF any further injector problems occured, he would pay for the repair. How much better does it get when your talking customer service?
For anyone whos interested in hearing what the test results said, i have the emails still. PM me and I can show you.

Ya but what about the vegi oil sitting in the fuel tank? I have heard of problems with gelling in the tank.

A properly designed system has an in tank heat exchanger.
Vegi oil doesn't gell per say like diesel, it just gets thicker nad thicher the colder it gets. Viscosity rises dramatically with cold temps.
