[quote=CHenry;616510]Don't use it if it has a bunch of loose sediment.
QUOTE]

I'm only asking because the guy I'm getting it from said he needed a hand taking it out and wasn't even sure if he could get it out without cracking it, because they devlop sediment in the bottom of them and become very heavy. How will I know if there is "too much?"

Pull the lower pipe out, the drain, and look inside with a flashlight...if you see a pile of calcium chips, file 13 it.
You will be able to hear it inside if you roll it also.

I have worked in several restaurants during my college days. We always used Magnasol powder when we filtered our fryer grease. Does it dissolve in the grease like sugar in water? Or does the filter catch all of it? Have you asked if your suppliers use magnasol in there fryers?
Thanks
Foxhole

They don't use this much at all anymore from my experience.
But yes, i am aware of it and it will not hurt anything...its like an inert ingrediant.

don't use gas, it is too much heat for WVO. The elec elements in my HWH are over two years old and going strong. the lower one is the only one wired up so if it ever quits, i can switch the top one to the bottom and use it. These elements are like 10 nbucks to replace so its not an issue to me.
I heat to 140*...most HWHs are controled thermostatically to a high temp of 150*
