I edited the first post here to include information on where to buy the filter housing and pump for this setup.

Don't go cheap on the filter...its the only thing that stands between your engine and "trash" as fuel.
I always say "go big or go home"

I have that housing and in addition to everything that Clay has said about it it looks really cool too. I looked at some others - there is actually a company in my town that makes them - but they were close in cost and they were steel vs. aluminum. I just talked to a guy at that company because I get my filter bags from him and he said he has sold quite a few lately and can't get over all the interest due to bio & WVO. I agree that it is not cheap but I look at it as approximately 68 gallons of #2 at my new reduced local price of $4.85 (Down from $4.95 just yesterday - sure glad I am not buying much of that stuff anymore). I get the filter bags for $2 too which comes into play.

Ok got my pump ordered, and I'm checking with my buddy to see if he can get the filter setup from work for me , but I wont hold my breath. If not, I will order that as well. My hot water heater should be in my posession end of next week and I can start filtering.

I have a question regarding the hot water heater though. A used hot water heater usually has a lot of sediment built up inside of it? What is done about this? Just leave it? Try and clean it out somehow? If it's an issue I'm not going to let just a hot water heater stop me, I'll just go buy a new one, but I am trying to save money where ever possible.

I planned on buying a new one - even had it picked out and then I came across a used one for $25. This one had only been used for a couple of months and then the guy switched over to gas. I wired mine up, filled it with water, heated it up and then drained it with a hose. I then flushed it out a couple times without heating the water.

Clay, how do you dispose of the dregs you pull off the bottom of the HWH after it settles out?

Don't use it if it has a bunch of loose sediment.

I drain about 3-4 gallons off of every batch, that is not all dregs. I let that 4 gallons settle in the cubie for a couple days and then carefully pour off the top 2/3rds back into the prefilter barrel.
I keep doing this with the same cubie untill it gets alot of dregs in it (about 1 gallon) and then i pour it on a campfire when i go to the lake...it burns well.

Somebody may have asked this already, but does this rig do a good job of dewatering? I guess the water comes out with the settling phase?
