I'm assuming once you have the oil filtered, you can do whatever you want with it, meaning you can run it in a WVO system, or blend it in a separate tank for BIO, correct? If you dont mind me asking what did the total setup cost you? I'm very interested in this, and your setup looks killer. Also is your setup in a heated area? I'm not sure I'd be able to get mine in a heated area, but I think if I got an in tank heater from tractor supply or the likes, to put in that 55 gallon holding tank, I could then pump it into the hot water heater, heat it, and then just drain it an hour or so after it was heated, I would be OK. I like your setup though, but I think I would need to adapt it for my use.

This setup is a WVO filter only. It is in my garage at the moment untill the shop gets built in a few weeks.
Theres no need to put a heater in the barrel, the heat is applyed in the HWH and then it is left to settle overnight. Particle matter and suspended water will fall out of the oil when its heated up. You cant speed the settling process anymore than this. It just takes a little heat and then gravity does the rest over several hours time.
I have 200.00 in the tank, 360.00 in the filter housing, 250.00 in the pump and the various valves and plumbing stuff was another 100.00

Clay what type of filter does that huge housing take and what's the micron rating? Nominal or absolute? My setup is not so valve/hose/pump oriented but then again I'm not using a hot water heater. Time to look on Craig's List for a free one.

Why is there no need to put a heater in the barrel? If I put the oil in there and let it sit for a week or so in 0 degree weather, I think I'm going to have a heck of a time to pump it over to the HWH no? What makes this different from a Bio filter, as far as filtering goes? Just a whole different process together? I know I can get the various plumbing and fittings at no cost, I already have a 55 gallon drum, I may be able to get some sort of a pump as well. Is there anything special to look for in a pump and a HWH?

That new filter looks pretty but I still think your blue barrel was sexier than the clear one. Looks good - Thanks for posting up the new pictures. Have you had enough time with the new filter housing to determine if it is worth the few extra bucks?

Hey Clay I am still confused on one item. You mentioned that that beer bottle thing was optional. What is that some sort of additional filtration unit or something? Do you pour the oil into the hot water tank via the beer bottle? Please clarify as it could get kinda messy pouring 50 gallons of thick oil through a beer bottle. There has to be an easier way or am I missing something?

Sorry man I couldn't resist. Thanks again.

Those filters are "Trade size 4" filter bags and can be found and any filter supply store. 5 micron rated.

Unless y ou are using PH oil, it will still flow with a good pump to move it from the barrel to the HWH. Sure it will flow better when warmed up a little but you wouldn't HAVE to heat the barrel. I don't know much about Bio-filtering other than you need to water wash the oil for Bio-D i think.

I have not used it yet but i will in a week or so. The new housing should work exactly the same as the other one with easier access to the removal of dirty filters and a over all smaller unit. Filters for this unit are easier to find also...and a few bucks cheaper than the filters for my other unit - but they are also smaller and may not last as long, that is yet to be determined.

LOL, the beer bottle should be for nothing other than holding cold barley and hops water for your cunsuming pleasure while you get old used fryer grease all over your hand. It makes it a tad more enjoyable to get greasy! But then again, thats just how us do things...
