Coal to diesel

I read where the Germans did this during WWII. Converted coal into a diesel product. I also saw someone from......I'm gonna say Montana (Do y'all have coal mining up there) it was a state that surprised me saying they wanted to use their coal to convert to diesel but it is very expensive.

So how high does dino diesel have to get at the pumps before this process is more affordable and does it work? I mean if I am gonna have to pay 4.00 per gallon I would rather for that to trickle down and end up in the pocket of some coal miner than anyone in the middle east.

I agree.
Good question. I am sure there will be many more options coming of age as dino prices rise.

I think I read something about that in a diesel mag awhile ago. The governor was trying to get something going on it. I think it is crude in the shale and they refine it out somehow.

keep in mind that when Rudolph Diesel was developing his engine back in the 1890's, he tried to use coal and it almost killed him.

when the state of montana researched it....it cost roughly $3.00 a gallon just to make the fuel...

that didnt include

mining costs...

transportation costs....

and that was to make LSD....not ULSD....but i dont know if there would be much difference there with coal or not...

Hey Marc,
A) Good to see you posting a lot. B) How long ago was that (3.00 a gallon). If it has been a while I wonder if technology has brought the costs down. I do wonder if the sulfur level is affected by coal diesel.
