Just Bought Some....

Hey guys, I just bought about 25 gals. of B-100 for my 2000 7.3 EX. My tank at the time was near empty, low fuel light was on. The guy tells me I need to top off my tank with regular diesel fuel. He explains to me that the cleaning properties of the bio are such that my vehicle, taking into account the miles, 175K that straight up bio would likely clog the fuel filter in less than 100 miles. He suggested a 60/40 bio/dino split for about 3 tanks or so, and close monitoring of the fuel filter over the next few tanks.

Anyone ever heard of this situation? New to me, but I am new to bio.

I will say the truck seems slightly quieter, and smokes VERY little. The exhaust smells like someone is burning food, not the french fry smell I was expecting. EGT's are down a bit as well, maybe 75 degrees or so. The truck seems to run fine, although it does seem to have less power, but that may be my imagination, it was Africa hot today so that I'm sure lent something to the sluggishness. Still to early to speculate on MPG's although at first impression it does not appear it will be significant one way or the other.

These guys sell fuel straight from the pump, no home brew stuff. He did tell me where it was made or who makes it, but he was very affirming about it being made in a large plant and not in some homeboys garage.

Bottom line, so far, so good. And at $2.50/gallon I hope it stays that way.

Let me ask you this......If diesel fuel wasn't 3 bucks a gallon and it was back to say, 1.80.....do you still think they'd charge 2.50 for bio? What a crock I think......it's not even made from crude and they're bending ya over!

Well I have no idea what they would charge "if" it were 1.80/per gallon, but as we are all painfully aware of it is around $3.00 per gallon, so at $2.50 per gallon, I'm hardly the one getting bent over.

As long as the truck goes, and has no ill effects on the bio, and is cheaper than dino, I'll keep buying it.

every website says that the first few tanks will clog your filter. I started running B100 at 220k miles on my 95 7.3 I have not had any clogs or any other probs. I haven't changed my filter in 8k miles, but plan on it this weekend. I am at 230k and running strong.

Travis,

Thats good to know. I did find the filter clogging statement a little odd, but I was/am still new to bio stuff. I have actually been looking at the filter about every other day to see what I could see, and so far, nothing. My filter has about 7K on it give or take. I plan on running one more 60/40 ish tank before I go 100% B100 just to be on the safe side. I'll let you know what happens, if anything.

BTW did you notice any performance or MPG changes on the bio stuff?

B100

I have noticed no mileage or power loss. I still average 15 mpg riding on 315 BFG's. The power feels the same. I love the smell and when it splashes on me refilling, it washes right off. Also, here is Atlanta, the fuel is made just up he road at a chemical plant, so the money stays in our state. US Biofuels uses chicken tallow from local processing plants to make their B100.

So it isn't kind of difficult to get rid of the smell like diesel is? I got a little diesel on my hand last night filling up and it sucked to shift. My hand kept wanting to slip off my shifter ball. I didn't have anything to wipe it on in the truck except my clothes which were too nice for wiping at the time.......
