pros, cons and costs
could someone inform me on the pros, cons and costs of using "fry oil" in my 97 psd 7.3 ? I live in Mexico (Cuernavaca) where the temps very rarely get to the high 40's so I think the geling problem would not be a problem. I have NO IDEA of what mods I would need to do or their costs. I am fairely mechanically minded and can count on very good welders/fabricators if you think that it would be cost effective to go this route. My present MPG is down to 7 or 8 with no obsevable problems. Please read my thread " hello anybody there" or do a search for the user name " johnstelly " to read the replys that all of you good people have sent me on my problem. Hoping to hear from you who know about this and wish you all my best. PS I am not too good on the computer and would rather use the phone so if you are so inclined please send me your tel. number and time when I could call you. my email is johnstelly@yahoo.com Thanks !

i dont know that i can call or recive from Mexico, never tried or asked. otherwise id gladly give you a ring.
first thing you need to do is find out why your only getting 8 mpg. are you pulling a lot of weight in the city with that? if your gettign that lightly loaded or empty you need to address this first. if your fuel system has problems then you most certianly have problems running wvo. pros: you know them aready cons: up front cost, cost of conversion and filtering equipment, having to find and keep sources, for you - having to do a bit more work to convert a 97 over and SD. for what its worth, i have a document i need to finish about converting a 95, which is the same as a 97. and there is another guy on the BFT forum that has a much cleaner setup than i do. youll need to convert the current fuel system to an electric setup. then build out the wvo side as well. for filtering youll want to use a gravity fed centrifuge, you can bag filter, but you would be amazed what it misses. wvodesigns and simplecentrifuge both have turnkey centrifuges. |

thank you matt for the reply. No I am not hauling/towing anything and my MPG is very bad. Check out my thread "hello anybody there" to see what's been posted already on this subject in the powerstroke diesel forum.org You are probably right by saying that I should first fix the problem of low MPG before moving to WVO but untill now nobody has been able to resolve my problem. Maybe, just maybe, you are the long waited answer to my prayers.
